I love my job!
I mean, I absolutely, without a doubt, freaken LOVE my job!
Who wouldn't?! I get to help people get healthier, regain lost energy, be happier, improve their financial situation...the list goes on & on. Oh! And, I 'get to' be my own boss & make my own schedule....
Being your own boss is truly amazing in so many ways (that's a topic for discussion all on its own), but guess who has to keep you accountable? YOU!
What?! I'm in charge of keeping myself on track?
It's been over a year since I've been working at home full-time, being my own boss. To be honest, I still have not mastered the art of efficiently managing my activities. Seriously though, it's not really my fault. LOL!
I sit at my desk, glance out the window, see some weeds in the garden, and get up to just take a 'quick' break to go pull them. I walk to the kitchen to go outside, see the dirty dishes on the counter so decide to just wash them 'quick'. Then I realize the dish towels could be washed so I walk them to the laundry room....and see that there's a load to be washed 'quick' so I throw that in the washing machine. I mean, it may as well be washing while I'm working, right? ;) As I'm coming back downstairs, I see that the mail has been delivered so I grab that and walk it back to my office, at which point I glance out the window and see the weeds.
This is honestly a typical day for me. And that's just one example of MANY time-wasting Family Circus trails I embark on-just like little Billy-during any given day. Who's with me?!
As you can see, productive hours can be lost very quickly--and as our buddy Ben says, "...lost time will never be found again."
So, things have got to change. But how?
Well, first of all, I'm going to use the oils I've got. When I use ones like Clarity, Envision, Brain Power, Motivation, even Peppermint, my concentration is kicked up a notch or 10! I have a diffuser in my office. Peppermint can go in there and I'll pick one of the others to apply to my temples & brain stem.
Next, I'm going to try a timer. Any good old-fashioned kitchen time would work. (Phones have timers on them too, but I've realized that I'm much more productive when I leave my phone in different room!) For people who like all things digital, you may want to try Egg Timer. It's an online timer, FREE and easy to use. Perfect.
Starting today, I'm going to Egg Timer my way through the day. I'm going to pick a task, set the timer and not get up until the timer goes off.
What are some of your tips for not wasting time? I'd seriously LOVE to know! Help a girl out & leave a quick comment below. If you know of someone who could use help in this department (like me!) and may benefit from the tips here, feel free to share!
There are all sorts of opinions on the best ways to best use your time, how much time to spend on a project, etc. In my opinion, the key is to try the methods the 'experts' recommend and see what works best for YOU. In my opinion, there's no 'one size fits all'.
Wish me luck. I'll let you know how it goes! :)
